REBECCA LOUISE LAW
Double Decker commissioned London-based artist Rebecca Louise Law to create an extraordinary seven-storey-high ceiling of 11,000 fresh flowers floating above visitors’ heads, creating a sublime, dreamlike experience at the Onassis Cultural Centre (OCC) in Athens. Law, who is renowned for her collaborations with Damien Hirst and Matthew Williamson, crafted the living installation to emphasise the fragility and ephemerality of creation, in perfect harmony with the striking architecture of the OCC.
Inspired by Greek flora, Law created the artwork with flowers and local aromatic herbs such as carnations, roses, lavender, basil, oregano, olive trees, and heliotrope. The temporary, evolving, site-specific installation transformed the OCC foyer into a nature-filled vertical space, evolving in form, colours, smell, and shape. Visitors were invited to witness the natural cycle while immersing themselves in this celebration of nature.
